Hey! If you are coming over from Facebook and are new to Child at Heart, please subscribe for more easy gift ideas just like this one 🙂
With Father’s Day around the corner, I was thinking about a little something to get my dad. As I was walking down the aisles at Walmart, I saw the 12 oz. Coca-Cola cans that say “Grillmaster” on them and thought this would be a fun start for a Father’s Day gift. I grabbed the 12 pack of cokes and went up to the front.
Okay a little about my dad! He ALWAYS drinks Coca-Cola. When we were young, he used to let us drink Coke and eat a snickers bar for breakfast on road trips. I always know what to order him to drink at a restaurant and I’m pretty sure he let my son have his first sip of Coke when I wasn’t looking. 🙂
I LOVE my dad and was excited to get the chance to “Share a Coke” with him. He was in the military while I was growing up, worked for my school as a plumber and later was the boss man! He is the hardest working, most servant minded person I will EVER know and I love that seeing a Coca-Cola makes me think of him. He even subscribes to my blog…now that’s a good dad. 🙂
I decided to take the “Grillmaster” Coca-Cola cans and turn them into his Father’s Day present. I wanted to add something else to it so I made a SUPER yummy steak rub/marinade that involves his favorite thing…Coke! Check out the recipe below…it’s so easy and makes a simple gift for any man in your life who loves the grill!
Now…the steak rub/marinade recipe:
Mix the ingredients listed below to create your homemade Rub/Marinade. I put my dad and cousin’s marinade in small glass jars for safe keeping and added a fun chalkboard tag so they don’t forget what it is.
How to Use the Rub:
Marinade 2 to 3 steaks in 1 12 oz. can of Coca-Cola and 1 tsp. Liquid Smoke for 1 to 2 hours.
Remove from the Coca-Cola and place on a cooking sheet.
Rub 1 to 2 tsp. of the dry rub on each steak.
Grill and enjoy!

When I got to the checkout line, I saw a huge bin of 20 oz. bottles of coke with TONS of different names on them. I looked through the bottles a bit trying to find someone’s name from my family and I quickly became the consult for others if their name was in there. 🙂 If you are looking for a specific name, Walmart definitely has the most variety and is the easiest place to look through the bottles!
I saw my cousin Scott’s name and I thought I would get it for him. I looked down and his wife’s name, Amy, was right next to it. I thought that was some type of sign from God so I got both of them and made a fun little baby gift for them since they are expecting a baby girl VERY soon!
I used the 20 oz. Coca-Cola bottles with my cousin’s names for a fun and easy baby gift! Just some diapers, wipes, their personalized Coke bottles, and some steak marinade (because they LOVE to grill too) and it’s all done!
