Paper Cactus Place Cards Tutorial

Paper Cactus Place Cards Tutorial: the Child at Heart blog

I recently taught a lettering workshop and I wanted to have a really fun place card for each of my students and of course, cactus place cards came to mind.  I am partnering with Oriental Trading this week to share this fun tutorial for your next party!   🙂

Here is your supply list:

Mini Terra Cotta Pots

Gold Foil Leaf Sheets

Green Card Stock Paper

Painter’s or Washi Tape

White Sand

Mod Podge

Marker

Ok first I painted half of my pots pink and left the rest the natural terra cotta color.

After they were dry, I taped off where I wanted my gold leaf foil to stick with painter’s or washi tape.

I applied a thin layer of ModPodge to that triangle space and then added the gold leaf foil sheets.  I really loved this gold foil compared to some other’s I have tried.  It was really easy to use and remember…it doesn’t have to be perfect to look great!

I rubbed off the excess foil, removed the painter’s tape, and then added another layer of ModPodge to seal it.

Then I added a small paper circle to fill the bottom of the pots.  I added some sand for my paper cactus to sit in.

I cut out a large and small cactus shape, cut slits in them, and put them together.  Make sure the large cactus shape for the bottom will fit inside the terra cotta pot.  I added each girl’s name and some little shapes for the cactus needles.

Stick the paper cactus in the sand and all done!  These could be so fun at a party, workshop, or without the names as a party decoration.  🙂
