How to Make a Fringe Necklace

How to Make a Fringe Necklace in 5 Minutes
I was making my Halloween costume the other day and I wanted to make a fringe necklace to add some color to my outfit.  I found this GREAT yarn from Lion Brand called “Fettuccini” which is basically a huge spool of pre-cut t-shirt yarn!  I barely used any of it to make this necklace and can’t wait to use it again for more projects.
This necklace took me five minutes to make and that included me taking my pictures and doing my video too 🙂  I might have to make this in every color but it’s so easy I really could.  My friend Kylie modeled it for me today and it made her t-shirt instantly dressed up and fun!
I made a quick video so you can see the process with just a few captions or look below for the step by step pictures and instructions.  (I don’t talk during the video so it’s office and nap time friendly!)

Cut a really long piece of yarn for the “neck” part of the necklace.  It can always be trimmed later.  Cut smaller pieces of yarn and make sure they are twice as long as the length you are wanting.  Fold them in half and loop them over the “neck” piece of yarn like pictured.

Pull tight and push them together.  Keep going until you like the amount of strands you have on the necklace.  I did about 18 strands but I would try it on and see what it looks like.

I tried it on a few times before I decided to stop adding more strands.

Now you need to trim the bottom of the necklace.  I taped off a V shape with painter’s tape and then just trimmed below the tape.  You could do a line straight across or whatever you want.  I also taped the top to the table to make sure it didn’t move around while I was cutting.

All done and ready to wear 🙂  You could use an old t-shirt to make this too but I suggest the Lion Brand Yarn because it eliminates all of that cutting and makes this a super quick project that you will love.  I’m thinking a suede or leather fringe necklace is next 🙂

Have you made a t-shirt necklace before?  What do you do to dress up a plain t-shirt?
